DES MOINES | Cedric Eugene Ruby, 72, passed away Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center.

He was born October 22, 1941, in Mason City, Iowa, to Warren and Evelyn (Barber) Ruby. After graduating from Mason City High School and Mason City Jr. College, Ced spent 30 years as a locksmith at Drake University. He was also a member of the Iowa Civil War Re-enactment, Army of the Southwest.

Cedric is survived by his children, Cedric “Chip” Ruby II (Jennifer) of Fort Dodge and Cynthia Ruby Kaponga of Altoona; siblings, Warren Ruby Jr. (Bobbie) of Evanston, Ill., and Cheryl Paine (Gregory) of Saint Paul, Minn.; and grandson, Morgan; granddaughters, Amelia and Adelynn; nephew, David Ruby (Elizabeth) of Champaign, Ill.; and niece, Heather Paine of Rochester, Minn. He was preceded in death by his parents and son-in-law, Maio Kaponga.

Services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 N.W. 60th Ave., Des Moines. Visitation from 1 to 2 p.m.; memorial service to follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family.
