George Joseph Kloster, 78, of Des Moines, passed away Sunday, January 20, 2019, at the Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines. 

A Memorial Gathering will be held from 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, January 23, 2019, at the Iles-Westover Chapel in Des Moines. 

George was born in Iowa City, IA, December 16, 1940, one of six children to George C Kloster and Marcella Dwire. He received his education in Mason City where he graduated from high school. On August 4, 1968 he married the love his life Marlys Evans and together he had one son Joe.

George was a head Maintenance Supervisor for many years and the latest being at the Iowa State Capitol Building where he retired in 1995. 

He loved bowling, fishing, the St. Louis Cardinals, playing cards and slots on the internet and the casino and watching western movies. George was a jokester and loved telling jokes to people he knew or even those he didn’t. His passion was watching his grandson bowl for which he was extremely proud. He also enjoyed spending as much time possible with all the grandchildren and the kids at daycare. Over the years he enjoyed going on family vacations and visiting relatives. 

He was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother.

George is survived by his wife of 50 years, Marlys, a son Joe Kloster of Des Moines, grandsons; Chase Kloster and his fiancé Stephanie of Milton, FL, grandson Jordan Kloster of Des Moines and a granddaughter Cassidy Brummer of Urbandale, IA
