Phyllis was born June 11, 1942, the daughter of Donald and Luella (Campbell) Dye in Mason City, IA.  She graduated from Mason City High School in the class of 1960.  On February 11, 1961, Phyllis was united in marriage to Alvin Opkis in Mason City.  To this union four children were born.

Phyllis had a great love and passion for the outdoors, going on family camping trips all over the United States, relaxing while fishing for walleye with her family at some of her favorite spots such as Dora Lake, Three Mile Lake, Big Stone Lake, and South Padre Island just to name a few.  She enjoyed watching the birds, looking for bargains at the garage sales, or going to Pella, IA for Tulip Fest.  Phyllis looked forward to her grandchildren’s activities and was always there to support each of them.  She was also known to enjoy a good game of bowling or go deer hunting with the boys.   For her more relaxed quiet time she could be found reading one of many romance novels.

Those thankful for having shared in Phyllis’s life include her husband, Alvin; children, Debora Opkis, Mark (Fiancé Mandy) Opkis, Wendy (Mark) Coyle; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one niece and one nephew.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, one son Jarrod Opkis; one grandson, Zachary; and a sister Marlys Amos.
