CRASH TAKES 3RD VICTIM

   Michael James Kirschbaum, 18, who was injured in the head-on collision of two cars Tuesday morning a mile north of Mason City, died Friday morning, (January 29, 1960), at a Mason City hospital.                                                                                                                                                

   His was the third death resulting from the accident.  David G. Walk, friver of one of the cars, and Duane E. Iverson, 22, both of Albert Lea, were killed outright.

   Peter John Colman, 20, Rockwell, driver of the car in which Kirschbaum was riding, is in fair condition at Mercy Hospital.  James Mandt, 18, 546 9th S.E., and Wayne Lee Ackland, 17, Albert Lea, also injured in the accident, are reported in satisfactory condition at Park Hospital.

   Kirschbaum was born January 10, 1942, in Mason City, son of Otto and Rosa (Jilek) Kirschbaum.   He was a senior in the Mason City High School and was to have been graduated in June.  He was a graduate of Holy Family Elementary School.

   He was engaged to Janice Kay Basgall, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. P. Basgall, Mason City.  A member of Holy Family Catholic Church, he was employed at Syl's Fruit Market.

   Surviving are his motgher, now Rosa Helland; stepfather, Owen Helland; three brothers, Specialist Ronald Kirschbaum, U. S. Air Force at Zarugosa, Spain; Gary Kirschbaum, Clear Lake, and L. Joe Kirschbaum, Mason City; a sister, Miss Ottie Kirschbaum, Mason City and grandmother Clara Jilek, Washington, D. C.  He was preceded in death by his father.

   Funeral arrangements are incomplete.  Friends may call at the Colonial Funeral Home after 4 p. m. Saturday.
